Plastics are used in almost every house and workplace. There is no better alternative to it. These are of different types that the plastic molding companies work on. The types of plastics cannot be compared with each other as every form is distinct in its features and has special roles to play.

Different types of plastics manufactured by the plastic industries:

  • Thermoset plastics:

Thermoset plastics can be cooled and solidified in any shape. Once taken a shape, these cannot be molded into the original shape or liquid form once again. Such type of plastic is considered very durable and tough. A few examples to give are aircrafts machinery, parts and tires, and auto parts. Some materials to name are, phenolic, resins, and epoxy resins.

  • Thermoplastics:

Thermo plastics have a broader definition and a range of variations. Unlike other forms, these are not rigid. They can be hardened, softened, and returned to its original form. Let’s look at a few common forms from this lost;

Polyethylene PET: Also known as PETE, such plastics are used in zip locks and other food storage bags.

Polystyrene: It is manufactured with the help of styrene molecules. When polystyrene undergoes the heating process, it forms Styrofoam. Such plastics are light in weight and can be easily molded.

Polyethylene, LDPE: LDPE is one of the most common forms of plastics today. Due to its distinct feature of low density, it can easily float in alcohol or water. It is mainly found in disposable gloves, garbage bags, wraps, bottles, and films.

Polypropylene, PP: PP was first invented by Giulio Natta and Karl Ziegler. PP is mainly used in battery cases, tubes, filaments, bags, and bottles.

Process of forming a plastic:

Precast manholes aren’t the only option. You must be aware of how plastic is manufactured. Several processes are involved in the plastic manufacturing unit. The process varies as per the type of the plastic and product to be made.

  • Extrusion:

Pellets are mechanically heated and stored by mixing in a long unit. There is a small opening forced for cooling the plastic with air or water.

  • Injection molding:

Under this process, the resin pellets are heated and mixed in a huge chamber. Similarly, high pressure is then forced to transform it into cold mold.

  • Blow molding:

The resin pellets in this method are heated and compressed into a liquid tube, for example toothpaste. The process is followed to make plastic bottles.
